It Turns Out the Average American Woman Is Not a Size 14 Anymore

Must read

Accuracy is extremely important when it comes to women’s clothing size, but a recent study has revealed that this has become even more important at present, since retailers have been using information which is completely outdated when it comes to the size of women’s clothing.

According to a new study published in the International Journal of Fashion Design, Technology, and Education, the average size of American Women is currently 16, whereas it was 14 around 10 years ago.

Around 5,500 American women aged above 20 participated in the study, and this data was combined with data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Based on this info, scientists have found out in the last 21 years, there has been an increase of 2.6 inches in waist circumference, resulting in increased clothing size.

Researchers said that the fashion industry should be using this new data for creating women’s clothing, otherwise it could be inaccurate which seems to the case at the moment.

The researchers wrote, “Women would be quite satisfied to know that the average size for American women is actually bigger than what the industry thinks.”

Study author Deborah Christel, Ph.D said that she will be pressuring the fashion industry to incorporate this new size into their clothing as soon as possible.

The authors wrote that based on the current information, they can now understand why there are so many female customers who are frustrated with the size and fitting of clothes.

So if you are one of those American women who are frustrated by the misleading clothing sizes, just remember that you are not alone, and a solution will be arriving soon hopefully.
