Having Hair In Your Ear Is A Warning Sign! What Does It Mean?

Must read

1. A recent study has found that there is a link between heart attacks and the hair in your ear canal. Sounds weird? Yes, it is indeed, but several other studies have also confirmed this.

It first happened in 1973, when Dr. Sanders T. Frank and his team published a study in the New England Journal of Medicine. He and his team found a diagonal earlobe crease(now known as “Frank’s sign”) which could be a warning sign to indicate coronary artery disease.Plaque build-up in the arteries blocks the normal flow of blood causing this disease. That study was the first study done regarding this topic. Another group found out the same conclusions in 1984. 43 men and 20 women were involved in their study, and they too found that sudden cardiac arrest had a strong correlation with those that had the crease and ear canal hair.According to Dr. Richard F. Wagner of Boston University Medical School, this happened from the formation of a clot in the arteries caused by prolonged exposure to a male hormone named androgen. This also caused an increase in the production of red blood cells. In 1989, another study was published in the Indian Health Journal which focussed on the relation among crease, ear canal hair and coronary artery disease. 215 Indian patients were a part of this study, and ear hair grew more with age in them. Edston E., in 2006, published his study in the American Journal of Forensic Medical Pathology. Almost 500 autopsies were done checking the BMI, spleen weight, earlobe crease, ear hair, baldness, obesity, the cause of death, etc. He found out that in both the genders, CAD had a close link with earlobe crease(P < 0.0001), but death due to sudden cardiac attack was mostly found in men (P < 0.04).

This probably happens due to aging, but many experts are of the opinion that testosterone supplements are to blame. They believe that ear canal hair and heart attacks occur from testosterone supplements, but the truth is that old age and obesity are more likely to cause heart attacks than ear canal hair.
